Symantec endpoint client not updating policy
If the Group Update Provider is offline, the clients contact the management server for updates. Enable third-party content management Enables third-party tools such as Microsoft SMS to provide updates to client computers securely.
To use this feature, you must set up a Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager to use as a staging server for content.
To mitigate this issue, Security Response is no longer incrementing the date on SEP Security Content and instead only incrementing the revision number of the content.
Symantec is aware of this issue and is currently investigating it.
This document will be updated as soon as more information becomes available.
These definitions are properly dated as 2010 definitions.
After making this change, after running Live Update on a client, the ‘Virus and Spyware Protection’ definitions will have a January 2010 date.
This is due to the SEPM server having ‘Virus and Spyware Protection’ definitions with a date of December 2009.
Once patches are available and this temporary problem has been corrected by Symantec, details will be posted to this KB article. It is important to recognize that although new security content updates will show a date of 12/31/2009, they will contain up-to-date content.Relative definition age can be determined by the revision number. Please also note that once the SEPM servers have been patched, the clients should remain configured to download content Live Update for at least 3 days to ensure that they will get delta definitions from the SEPM server .If both options are enabled, clients try to retrieve updates from both sources.Typically, do not enable both options unless you have a specific reason. If the management server provides named update versions to clients, and the clients have previously downloaded the latest updates from a Live Update server, the clients do not download and install the named (previous) versions.Use the Group Update Provider as the default Live Update server Specifies one client in the group to act a proxy Live Update server for the group. One reason that you might want to create a Group Update Provider is to conserve bandwidth to clients in a remote location over a slow link. The latest ‘Proactive Threat Protection’ and ‘Network Threat Protection’ definitions were released in December 2009, and therefore will not show a January 2010 date.Once a client has downloaded January 2010 definitions from Live Update, the client should remain configured to download content from Live Update until your servers have been patched with a fix for this issue.
